Field Trips RC21 at Yokohama Congress scheduled on 16 July

  • All the tours will starts from Pacifico Yokohama, the congress venue, around 1:00 pm and may take 3.5 to 4 hours to complete. Those who would like to participate the afternoon session starting 3:30 pm may leave the tour early, and we’ll provide the instruction for public transport.

Bus tour: A critical-geographical tour of Yokohama

Duration: 3.5 hours

Description: This bus tour is an introduction to Yokohama’s social geography. It focuses on harbor and central areas (Honmoku, Yamate etc.) and touches on very diverse subjects such as the political, economic and planning history, migration and segregation, urban renewal, neighbourhood management and gentrification, social movements and tourism. The tour includes 2-3 stops including JICA Immigration Museum.

Walking tour: Exploring the Downtown Corner of Yokohama: The ex-Day-Laborers Town KOTOBUKI-CHO and the ArtBased Revitalized Area KOGANE-CHO

Description: This tour will visit Kotobuki-cho, former day-laborers district and now so-called “welfare town” where many residents are living on the state benefit, and Kogane-cho, former brothel town and now the forefront of artist-led regeneration. The NPO leaders and the local experts will deliver a talk.

Bus tour: Industrial Yokohama as a part of Global City-Region: A quick view of Keihin Factories Belt

Description: The bus tour will take you to the heart of Keihin Factory Belt between Yokohama and Tokyo. More specifically, the bus will be stopped at a few places around Kawasaki and Tsurumi, and we’ll have a brief visit to the local neighborhood where factory workers and ethnic minorities live and work.
